Albertha Smith Lawson, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and host of other endearing titles, passed away unexpectedly to be with the Lord on August 15, 2026, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 97. Albertha was born to Leon and Pauline Smith on November 24, 1928, in West Palm Beach, Florida. Albertha was the seventh of twenty children and the last of her generation to depart this earth. We know she is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with her loved ones, celebrating a life well lived!

Throughout her remarkable 97 years, Albertha filled every room with warmth and laughter. She enjoyed being around her family and loved ones, and, when able to, could be found in a kitchen cooking up something special that she always shared with others. For those who were fortunate enough to experience her neckbones, chicken souse, collard greens, and her favorite yellow cakes, just to name a few of her specialties, you know she put her "foot," heart, and soul into making sure that all who experienced her cooking enjoyed it. She took pride in being a giver and would give you her last. From her earliest days, she embodied the loving spirit instilled by her parents, and she carried these values into every relationship and chapter that followed. Albertha’s long life was marked by countless moments of joy, comfort, and selfless giving. She was a living legacy cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her home, much like her heart, was always open, welcoming loved ones and offering support without hesitation.

The memories Albertha leaves behind are as vivid and enduring as her commitment to her family and friends. She was affectionately known as Mama, Gruhmama, Grandma, Aunt Bert, and Bert. Each story shared, each lesson imparted, and each kindness extended remains a part of the countless lives she touched. Her legacy is one of generosity, resilience, strength, and unconditional love, a life spent nurturing others and leaving the world better than she found it. Though the ache of her loss is profound, we find solace in knowing she is in a better place, experiencing complete joy in the presence of the Lord and her family. We carry her spirit forward in every act of kindness and in every memory we hold close.

Albertha will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Although she is no longer with us in body, her spirit, laughter, sassy but quiet demeanor, and generous love will echo in our hearts always. We love you, Albertha! Your legacy will live on, and you will remain truly missed and forever in our memories!
